Eric C.M. Van Gorp Prof., PhD (Erasmus MC)
I am professor of Clinical Virology working at Erasmus MC Rotterdam, the Netherlands, at the Department of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and the Department of Viroscience. I am also visiting professor at the University of Airlanga in Surabaya, Indonesia. My field of interest is the social and scientific impact of infectious diseases, their epidemiology, clinical management and pathophysiology. My research focuses on exotic viral infections, among which the hemorrhagic fevers, HIV and Fever studies. I have the pleasure of collaborating with an extensive network of colleagues in the Netherlands, the Caribbean, Surinam, China and Indonesia. I am supervisor of the vaccination outpatient clinic and the clinical trial unit from the Erasmus MC Viroscience Department. Besides my academic research I am active in developing innovative ways of sharing knowledge about infectious diseases amongst the youth such as in the awardwinning program Viruskenner (http://viruskenner.nl/coach/eric-van-gorp/?lang=en). I am a board member of the SPREAD global health academic platform (www.spread-globalhealth.org) and the Cirion Foundation (www.cirion.net).
