Werner Brouwer Prof., PhD (ESHPM)
I am a professor of Health Economics at Erasmus School of Health Policy & management of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. I hold an MSc in Economics and a PhD in Health Economics both from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. My research has focused on the methodology of economic evaluations. This has included work on appropriate perspectives in economic evaluations, the normative foundations of economic evaluations, valuing health outcomes and the link between economic evaluation and health policy. However, my research interests are broad and I have published widely on other (health) economics issues as well, including waiting lists, equity, affordability of medicines in low and middle-income countries and costs of obesity and smoking. I have published over 160 international, peer-reviewed papers on these issues in journals like Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, British Medical Journal and the Bulletin of the World Health Organisation.
I am Associate Editor of Health Economics and a member of several Editorial Boards including those of the European Journal of Health Economics and PharmacoEconomics. In addition, I am a member of the scientific advisory board of the Dutch National Health Care Institute and the European Commission Expert Panel on Effective Ways of Investing in Health.
